Liz receives an OBE

Liz volunteers with Future Directions at Arkwright Road, Stockport. She has recently received an OBE for her outstanding contribution to the lives of children with educational needs and children with disabilities.

Congratulations Liz from all at Future Directions.

“I received an OBE from the Queen in November for services to special educational needs at Heaton School and children with disabilities. I worked at Heaton as Depty Head and Head Teacher for 28 years and before that in two other schools for nine years.

It was a great honour to receive the award of course, but I felt it was on behalf of all the fantastic staff I have worked with, all the families who strive so hard with their children and of course all the children who have achieved so much and teach us about the important things in life. After all it is all about team work. I am so delighted now to be volunteering with Stockport Advocacy in order to support adults with learning disabilities.

Meeting George and the guys at Arkwright has brought something new into my life, and I have found yet another group of staff who care deeply about the people they support. George is such a star, a real survivor and character. I am so lucky to be his friend. I can strongly recommend volunteering with Future Directions and Stockport Advocacy, and hope to persuade others to give it a go too”
